## 1What is Google Postmaster Tools?

**Google Postmaster Tools** is a free platform that provides email senders with data and insights into their email deliverability, especially when sending to Gmail users. It helps track metrics such as domain and IP reputation, spam rates, and the success of email authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

By using this tool, email senders can better understand how Google perceives their emails and take steps to improve their sender reputation. It is primarily useful for email marketers and bulk senders who are looking to improve inbox placement, reduce spam rates, and maintain a strong domain reputation with Gmail users.

## 2Why Should You Use Google Postmaster Tools?

Your sender reputation is crucial for ensuring your emails reach the inbox rather than being marked as spam. Google Postmaster Tools provides transparency into how Gmail rates your emails based on several factors:

Factor 1

Spam Rates

If too many users mark your emails as spam, it will affect your sender reputation.

Factor 2

IP & Domain Reputation

These metrics let you know if your sending infrastructure is considered trustworthy by Gmail.

Factor 3

Authentication Success

Tools like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are essential to proving that your emails are legitimate. Postmaster Tools helps you monitor whether your authentication is passing.

The Payoff

By monitoring these metrics, you can proactively fix issues before they hurt your deliverability — keeping your campaigns out of the spam folder.

## 3How Can Google Postmaster Tools Help Email Senders?

Google Postmaster Tools offers data that helps email senders in four key ways:

**Domain & IP reputation tracking** — Know how well Google trusts your domain and IP, which is crucial for email success.

**Spam report monitoring** — See how many of your emails are being marked as spam so you can adjust your strategy if rates run too high.

**Email authentication monitoring** — Track whether your emails are successfully authenticated through SPF, DKIM, and DMARC protocols.

**Delivery errors** — Identify and resolve errors that prevent your emails from being delivered.

Setup Guide

Get Google Postmaster Tools running

Set up your account with Google, then connect it to the platform in a few clicks.

## 4How Do I Set Up Google Postmaster Tools?

Step 1

Sign In to Google Postmaster Tools

Go to [postmaster.google.com](https://postmaster.google.com) and sign in using your Google account.

Step 2

Add Your Dedicated Domain

Once signed in, add your email sending domain. This domain must be one you have control over, and it's important that it's set up correctly with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication records.

Step 3

Verify Domain Ownership

To verify that you own the domain, add a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings. Google provides this record when you register your domain with Postmaster Tools.

Step 4

Access Your Data

After setup, it might take a few days to start seeing data like domain reputation, IP reputation, spam rate, and more.

Note

Postmaster Tools requires a meaningful sending volume before it surfaces reliable data. Low-volume domains may see partial or empty dashboards until traffic builds up.

## 7Reauthentication & Migrate to Postmaster Tools API v2

Google has released a new version of the Postmaster Tools API. To move your connection over, you'll re-authenticate from the Postmaster Tools tab — no need to disconnect and reconnect from scratch.

Step 1

Look for the Re-Authenticate Button

On the Google Postmaster tab, you'll see a banner letting you know Google has released new Postmaster data, along with a **Re-Authenticate** button next to **Revoke**.

![Reauthentication & Migrate to Postmaster Tools API v2 (image 6 of 8)](https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.freshdesk.com/data/helpdesk/attachments/production/155076653375/original/aqXoawyAJkhc9wqJiuGSGfsuBMTMV2Q96w.png)

- Controls: Google Postmaster Tools, Domain & IP reputation tracking, Spam report monitoring, Email authentication monitoring, Delivery errors, Connect to Google Postmaster, check the box, ✓, Continue, Re-Authenticate, Revoke, Postmaster Tools API v2

The Re-Authenticate and Revoke actions appear once Google has new Postmaster data available for your account.

Step 2

Re-Authenticate With Google

Click **Re-Authenticate**. You'll be redirected to your Google account to confirm access, the same way you did during the original connection.

Step 3

You're Switched to v2

Once reauthentication completes, your connection is automatically switched to **Postmaster Tools API v2**. The banner and the Re-Authenticate button disappear from the connection card.

![Reauthentication & Migrate to Postmaster Tools API v2 (image 7 of 8)](https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.freshdesk.com/data/helpdesk/attachments/production/155076653403/original/IRcqgtDmkR6jZyc5AJmfW8IL4XolZuGHpA.png)

After migrating, each connected domain shows its compliance status, delivery error rate, and spam ratio right on the card.

Version 2 of the Postmaster Tools API consolidates existing functionality and adds new capabilities for retrieving email statistics. With v2, you can now

**See a new Compliance Status tab** — inside the platform, covering whether each requirement is passing or failing for a domain. All other tabs (User Reported Spam, Spam Feedback, Authenticated Traffic, Encrypted Traffic, Delivery Errors) stay the same.

![Reauthentication & Migrate to Postmaster Tools API v2 (image 8 of 8)](https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.freshdesk.com/data/helpdesk/attachments/production/155076653418/original/up0jGxwp_N-Jthih8_Y_xTnROjvtEts9cA.png)

The Compliance Status tab breaks down every Gmail sender requirement — SPF & DKIM, From: header alignment, DMARC, encryption, spam rate, DNS records, and one-click/honor unsubscribe — for both the sub domain and primary domain.

Note

The IP Reputation and Domain Reputation tabs will soon be deprecated by Google. Google has not shared an ETA for when this will happen.

## 8Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Google Postmaster Tools free?

Yes. Google Postmaster Tools is completely free for any sender that meets Google's volume thresholds and owns a verifiable sending domain.

Q: Why don't I see any data after setting up Postmaster Tools?

Postmaster Tools requires a meaningful sending volume to Gmail addresses before it surfaces data. If you're sending only a few hundred emails, expect dashboards to remain partial or empty until your volume grows.

Q: Do I need to use a dedicated sending domain?

Yes. Postmaster Tools data is most meaningful when you own the sending domain and have full control over its SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. Shared sending domains will not surface useful per-tenant insights.

Q: What's a healthy spam rate to aim for?

Google considers spam rates above 0.1% as a critical signal. Aim to stay well below that — under 0.05% is a good operating range for marketers.

Q: How often is Postmaster data refreshed?

Google updates most dashboards once per day. Reputation values typically lag by 1–2 days behind actual sending activity.

Q: Will connecting Postmaster give Google access to my contact data?

No. The integration only requests read access to the email traffic metrics for the domains you've registered in Postmaster Tools. It does not share contact lists, recipient addresses, or campaign content.

Q: Can I disconnect Postmaster Tools later?

Yes. You can revoke access at any time from your Google account permissions, and disconnect the integration from Settings → Email Services → Postmaster Tools inside the platform.

Q: Do I have to re-authenticate to keep using Postmaster Tools?

Re-authenticating is how you migrate to API v2 and grant access to the newly available compliance metrics. If you don't re-authenticate, your existing connection keeps working, but you won't see the new Compliance Status tab or date-range reporting until you do.
